Breaking the Power Ceiling

Underwater-mounted motors are limited by underwater space, with power mostly below 8 horsepower; top-mounted motors, however, can significantly expand power capacity. For example, the Torqeedo Cruise 10.0R, a top-mounted model, reaches 80 horsepower—equivalent to the thrust of a traditional 60-horsepower fuel-powered outboard—capable of driving 10-meter-class commercial vessels or large leisure boats.

Gearbox: "Power Conversion"

The high rotational speed of the motor (3,000 rpm) needs to be converted into the low-speed, high-torque output of the propeller (500 rpm). The gearbox in top-mounted electric outboard motors achieves multi-stage deceleration, amplifying torque by over 6 times. Its helical gear meshing design also controls power loss within 5%, significantly improving efficiency.

More Convenient Maintenance

The motor and core circuits of top-mounted electric outboard motors are placed above the water surface, away from underwater sediment and salt erosion. Inspection and repair do not require disassembling underwater components, increasing maintenance efficiency by 3 times and reducing failure rates by 40% compared to underwater-mounted models—ideal for harsh environments like the ocean.

Stronger Adaptability

The detachable drive shaft and propeller of top-mounted electric outboard motors allow for replacement of different specifications: large-diameter propellers enhance towing force for ferries, while small-diameter ones boost speed for speedboats, enabling the same outboard to adapt to various vessel types.
