Can the battery of the FUBER G1.5 electric outboard motor be taken by car, ship, high-speed rail or plane?

For many water sports enthusiasts, how to carry electric outboard motor batteries while traveling is a common concern. Especially for portable devices such as the FUBER G1.5, whether its battery can pass security checks smoothly directly affects travel arrangements. The answer is yes — but with strict restrictions and conditions.

There is only one core criterion: the battery’s rated energy, measured in Watt-hours (Wh). Check the voltage (V) and capacity (Ah or mAh) marked on the battery label, then calculate with the formula: Wh = V × Ah.

Travel by Private Car

This is the most convenient option. Whether using a personal car or a rental vehicle, there are generally no restrictions on carrying the FUBER G1.5 electric outboard motor battery. Simply secure the battery properly to prevent rolling or collision during driving.

Travel by High-Speed Rail / Train

Railway regulations for lithium batteries are clear, based mainly on rated energy (Wh).

Rated energy ≤ 100Wh: Allowed to carry directly with no prior approval required. Most batteries for small portable devices fall within this range.

100Wh < Rated energy ≤ 160Wh: Prior approval from railway authorities is required, with a limit of 2 batteries per person.

Rated energy > 160Wh: Strictly prohibited, both for carry-on and checked baggage.

Important Note: Railway rules explicitly ban storage batteries and electric vehicle batteries from being carried or checked. This generally refers to large-capacity power batteries for cars and electric bicycles. Batteries for portable equipment like the FUBER G1.5 outboard motor are usually permitted as long as their rated energy meets the above standards, the markings are clear, and the battery is in good condition without bulging or damage.

Travel by Airplane

Air transport regulations are the strictest. All lithium batteries are prohibited in checked baggage and may only be carried as carry-on items.

Rated energy ≤ 100Wh: Permitted as carry-on without approval.

100Wh < Rated energy ≤ 160Wh: Prior approval from the airline is mandatory, limited to 2 batteries per person.

Rated energy > 160Wh: Strictly forbidden.

Key Requirement: If the battery is detachable, it must be removed from the device, its terminals insulated (e.g., wrapped with tape), and placed in your carry-on luggage.

Travel by Ferry / Passenger Ship

Rules for cross-sea ferries and passenger ships are similar to aviation requirements, with greater emphasis on safety isolation.

Basic Principle: Passengers are normally not allowed to carry electric vehicle storage batteries onboard. However, batteries for marine equipment such as outboard motors are generally permitted with proper safety protection.

Safety Requirements: The battery must be properly packaged to prevent short circuits and accidental activation. After boarding, place it in designated areas as instructed by crew members, away from fire sources, heat sources and crowded passenger zones.

Transportation ModeAllowed to CarryKey Regulations
Private CarYesNo special restrictions; keep battery securely fixed.
High-Speed Rail / TrainConditionally allowed≤100Wh allowed directly; 100-160Wh requires approval; >160Wh prohibited.
AirplaneConditionally allowedOnly carry-on, no checked baggage. Same Wh limits as rail; airline approval required for 100-160Wh.
Ferry / Passenger ShipConditionally allowedMust take short-circuit protection measures; store as directed by crew.

Before traveling, always confirm your battery’s rated energy and prepare according to the regulations of different transportation methods to ensure a smooth journey.
